Flavelle, Thomas

  • Born: Cir 1700, Co. Armagh, Ireland

   General Notes:

Descended from a French Huguenot refugee reputed to have come to Ireland in 1572. His father served in William III's army in Ireland. Was married to a native of Londonderry in whose right he possessed considerable property in the Co Armagh - to which he was heir. He was also a linen manufacturer. He died insolvent - in consequence of his having embarked in the linen manufacture. Considerable arrears of rent being due at the time the Landlord (Mr Workman) dispossessed the widow, and in compensation for tenant right, gave the eldest son William a small farm which his heirs, I believe, still hold and on which his son John had a lien of £5 per annum, which was very seldom paid to him.
